New Pocket Digital Video Camera
On a bit of a whim, I purchased a very inexpensive Video Camera yesterday, the Aiptek Digital Camcorder with 2.4″ Color LCD. It was on sale at Best Buy for just $99, so I really didn’t expect much and figured it was worth the gamble.Â
What drew me to it was its small size, cheap price and the fact that it records video directly onto an enclosed SD card (I bought a 2GB SD to go along with it). I thought it might be fun to record video clips with it that I can move directly and easily to the computer/web (our current camcorder requires several steps since it is an analog Sony Hi-8).Â
So far, this fun little gadget has not disappointed us! The kids love using it (with Windows Movie Maker) to make their own “production quality” videos. With the 2GB SD, it can take up to 96 minutes of VGA video…or 352 minutes of QVGA, recording the video in MPEG-4 format. It also can be used as a voice recorder, an MP3 player and a 5 Megapixel Digital Still Camera! It came with all the ArcSoft software needed to download (via USB), manipulate pictures and convert the video to any number of other formats. We are really enjoying this new, inexpensive tech toy!Â
Attached below is a little clip that Ben and I made…take a look by clicking on the “Play Now” link. It was scaled down in resolution/size to facilitate quicker loading for our lower bandwidth friends. The native quality from the camera is much better! The only drawback I see so far is graininess in low light conditions (as you would see with most any digital camera). In bright daylight, it rocks!
