Well, I am not entirely sure what happened, but the website started to run really slow today. Load times were taking more than a minute for the main page. I contacted the webhost and they said they were having no server issues. So, I concluded it must be something in my code. I tried deactivating and manipulating the most recent plug-ins I have installed without a whole lot of change in performance. I am still scratching my head and working on the issue, but have made one change so far that seems to help. I will now only show one post (the most recent) on the main page. To see previous posts, go to “Recently Posted” in the sidebar and select the title of the post you would like to read. The “Recently Posted” list will include all posts made in the past seven days. If you would like to see an earlier post, go to the “Archives” tab at the top of the page and navigate to the post you would like (by month). Also, to help performance, I have installed a plug-in that caches the website for quicker browsing. In addition, I have also replaced the Live ShoutBox chat client with a modified version that has some spam filtering tools and adds a chime to indicate when a new entry has been added to the ShoutBox. The spam filtering tools were necessary to allow me to ban the IP address of people that would like to use my ShoutBox for advertising their websites! Lastly, I rearranged the order of the items shown in the sidebar to move the Recently Posted links to the top for easier access. Hopefully I will find other things that may be gumming up the performance of the website and fix them as I discover them! If you have any issues with the website, please send me a note! Thanks!
