Over the holiday weekend, my father and I continued to update the Tobin Family Genealogy website with a lot of the source data compiled by my late Great Uncle Doug and other members of the family. While I still have a lot of data to input, we increased the size of the database to 455 individuals, 151 total unique surnames and 174 families. In so doing, we also added some historical notes on a few selected individuals to include Alfred Lysander Tobin and his twin brother Albert Sylvester Tobin, both of whom served in different Vermont Regiments (8th and 9th) in the Civil War. We also included a short write up on their brother Christopher Columbus Tobin, aka “Kit”, who served in the 6th Cavalry during the Spanish American War. “Kit” Tobin’s file includes a photograph of him taken in the 1860s.
The earliest birth year so far in our Genealogy file belongs to Richard Loves who was born in England in 1551. His line descends several generations down through the Uptons to Mary Upton who married Patrick Tobin. Patrick Tobin was my Great, Great, Great Grandfather that came to the United States from Ireland. Our Genealogy also descends directly from John Alden, who came to the US on the Mayflower. The linkages to John Alden comes through the Waldo family line which desvends down through my Grandmother Evelyn (Waldo) Tobin.Â
I hope to add a lot more notes and photos to the various individuals in our Genealogical files, but we were hard pressed to just get some of the information loaded over the weekend. We did scan about 50 or so photos that my father brought with him to include photos of family, residences, farms, etc. Once I get some more time I will associate the photos with various people in the Genealogy file and feature them here.Â
My parents headed back to Vermont today. They intend to make it a 2-day trip. It was great to have them here for Thanksgiving, but the time whisked by too fast. We had a good time visiting and spent part of Saturday visiting the Air Force Memorial. It was a beautiful day and we had a great time overlooking Arlington National Cemetary and the DC skyline from the memorial grounds. Aside from this day trip, eating lots of Turkey, and playing several hands of family card games, Karen and my mother became Genealogical widows as we spent a lot of time in front of the computer loading data!Â
