Yesterday amidst the gloomy, cold and wet weather we initiated a very large update to our Tobin Family Genealogy page. My parents, who are visiting for Thanksgiving, brought all of the Genealogy files that my Great Uncle Doug Tobin had compiled, as well as some additional work that was done by another relative Bob McEwing. I was amazed at how much information my father has accumulated. We spent a good portion of the day yesterday loading 7 generations of information on just one line of the family descending from Samuel Stinson Sr, who was born in 1804 in Ireland. We currently have 368 individuals, 127 unique surnames and 142 families in the genealogy. We estimate that we may have loaded about a third of the information he brought with him, not including loading any of the hundreds of pictures that he brought. I anticipate I will be working on this after my parents leave!Â
One of the many interesting individuals who will be loaded into our Genealogy is Albigence Waldo who was a surgeon at Valley Forge in the late 1770′s. His diary is quoted in many books about the Revolutionary War, chronicling the hardships and conditions at Valley Forge in the month of December 1777. We have not yet loaded the Waldo line into the Genealogy, but we plan to this weekend. The linkage to the Waldo family is through my Grandmother Tobin, whose maiden name was Waldo. There are also other interesting ties there as well, including linkage to poet Ralph Waldo Emerson.Â
I have uploaded our work so far to the Tobin Family Genealogy Website. I plan to make updates throughout the weekend as we continue to chip away at the large set of data we have.  Since the weather is starting to turn nice, we may find it harder to sit at the computer loading in the info today!Â
