Wow, time sure flies when you are having fun! A week from Saturday I will turn 40…..egads! It kind of crept up on me. Karen keeps calling me an old man, and I feel compelled to remind her that she is a mere 2.5 months behind me.  I will be taking a trip to Las Vegas next week and getting back just in time for cake.   I have to admit I am excited about going to Las Vegas. I haven’t been there in about 10 years, so I am curious to see how it has changed.  I am also looking to playing a little blackjack.Â
Karen’s parents are visiting this week. They arrived yesterday afternoon and are leaving on Friday. They had a good time helping Karen hand out candy to the kids last night while I dragged our kids around the neighborhood. Ben has decided that Halloween isn’t as fun as it used to be. Methinks he is growing up way too fast! Delaney still enjoys it quite a lot.Â
Tonight after dinner we all sat down and played a game of cards. I am not sure the name of the game we played, but it is very simple and a lot of fun. I think it is called “Screw Your Neighbor”….at least that is what you are trying to do! Everyone starts with 3 chips (or Quarters if you wish). Each player is dealt one card that they don’t show to anyone. The goal is to not be left holding the lowest card at the table (Ace)…..because if you do, you lose the round and one of your chips (or quarters) goes to the pot. Starting with the player to the left of the dealer, you can either exchange your card with your neighbor to your left, or keep it.  This progresses around the table and ends with the dealer …..with each player deciding whether or not to exchange their card with the player on their left. If nobody exchanges a card with the dealer, the dealer is stuck with the card they were dealt. If a card is passed to the dealer, the dealer can opt to pick another card from the deck. When all cards have been passed, all players show their cards. The one with the lowest card loses a chip/quarter to the pot. When a player loses all their chips….they are out of the game. You continue until only one player is left. That player wins the pot. The only other rule is that if you are dealt a King, you immediately turn it over for all to see and nobody can pass a card to you. Therefore, if you have a King, the person to your right is not allowed to pass a card to anyone, because you are exempt from exchange. This game is really simple, but a lot of clean fun.Â
Well, I am off to watch a late night hockey game….Penguinss at Los Angeles Kings…….it will be a late night for me!
