Family Update – 5 May 07

It was another crazy week at work.  On Thursday night, I went to one of our many operational sites to witness the deactivation of a new capability that was turned on a few weeks ago that has since been exhibiting serious problems.  Despite the contractor’s desire to keep the capability in place, I made them back it out because it was causing operational issues and they had no effective workaround, nor near term fix.  In fact, I think they will need to redesign the architecture a bit.  It was clearly the right decision….but it wasn’t popular with the contractor, since it doesn’t look good for them and they are in the midst of a source selection for a very significant contract.  I didn’t get home from the until after 11PM, making it a 16-hour day.

Last night, Karen and the kids stayed late at school to attend the Spring Fair.  They all had a great time playing games, eating pizza and cotton candy.  Ben said he had a blast running through the obstacle course that they had set up.  I got home from work about 6:45PM, and they didn’t get home until almost 8PM!  Had I known that they would be that late, I would have probably joined them at the school.

Karen has been substitute teaching almost daily, and is scheduled to work almost every day through the end of the school year in mid-June.  She likes it, but it is very tiring.  She also found out this week that she is highly anemic, so that could be contributing to her fatigue.  I am trying to get her to take the iron supplements that the doctor gave her on Wednesday.

The new (used) truck is back from the dealer with a new fuel pump (for a cool $824!).  Fortunately, everything else checked out great.  I am still ahead of the game with my blackjack winnings.  Speaking of which, I just ordered the following plates from the DMV:

Plate

We thought it was rather funny!  I have never purchased a vanity plate before, but this time it seemed warranted!

Thanks to Mr Papa, I am playing around with our Genealogy website using a new program entitled The Next Generation.  It is not quite ready for prime time yet, but if you want to take a peek, go to http://thetobins.org/genealogy.  I am still customizing the look and feel and have not synched up all of the media links yet.  If I like it when I am done, I may deactivate the current site that uses PhPGedView and replace it.
