Hello all, i’m mike tobin in california. I get tobin from my mother’s side, Marie Ann Tobin is her maiden name which i was given since my father left before i was born. I’ve always been proud to be a Tobin. Growing up i was always refered to as Tobin instead of Mike. Long time friends still call me Tobin. I’ve met my grandfather Tobin a couple times before he died when i was very young, but never learned anything. Trying to learn from my mom has always been a sore subject. I’ve meet one uncle close in age to my mother, Jim Tobin, he told me that my great grandfather came here during the second potato blight in ireland. I have been told that there is much older siblings of my moms in minisota. My mother’s mom who died when my mom was 10, was a Dingman, Neva Dingman, from South Dakota. I believe her father had a news paper business in SD in the 1800s then they came to California and he opened Dingman Studios. I have many silent movie star originall photographs with his signiture on the back and alot of other info i got when my moms step mother passed away…thats about all i know of my history. I have had a Tobin coat of arms key chain with our motto touch me not, for many years. Discovering your website has got me all fired up again to learn more…thank you…mike tobin

Irish census of1901 just came out,Looking for my Great gran uncle Lawrence Tobin who had disapeared by 1911..he was born 1875/76 in Listerlin Kilkenny!!

Hi there!
Found Yuur Website ( very nize one) during the search of my ancestors by name Olsen. My grandfather was Oluf Olsen. My mother has told me that an aunt of her left for America long time ago. I am going to search for ancestors in my grandmothers maidenname, Ritter, so I think I have to learn how about to work my way through “the haystack”, it isn´t easy to find my grandmothers background. But her fathers name has a kling of the way, that particular era named their sons, of chosing the name of the higer prominents.

I know I fit in here somewhere, but don’t know where. I am researching genealogy of all different last names connected in my tree. I went up through all the men in my line and didn’t bother branching off unless I had the information on hand. I have went back pretty far, all the way to James Tobin who died in 1774 and had a son named Robert Tobin (1758 – 1841) who married Sarah (Hardin) Tobin. Anyway, just stopping in.
